A
rivalry that goes way back, nearly half a century
in time, the Montréal Canadiens (originally known
as the Montréal Habitants, French for "natives")
and the Toronto Maple Leafs were and are two of the
greatest hockey teams in the NHL. They have been rivals
since the 1950s, when there is a Leafs-Canadians game
taking place there is a much higher energy level.
The games seem to mean much more, the fans become
more intense, the hits are bigger and there are always
people leaving the game crying. A comparison in another
sport would be Italy and Brazil in soccer. This rivalry
is one of the greatest traditions in hockey and hockey
is Canada’s game.
