This
story is about a typical young boy that grew up in
Quebec. Just like every other boy on the ice rink,
this young boy (Roch) sported the Canadiens jersey;
they all wore the same ones on their backs, the one
with number nine. When Roch’s mother realized that
his jersey was getting too small, she banned him from
wearing it since it’s small size would spark speculation
that they were too poor to afford a new one. So Roch’s
mother wrote a letter to Monsieur Eaton asking him
to send her son a new jersey. Being a Leaf’s fan,
Monsieur Eaton sent young Roch the white and blue
jersey; once he saw the jersey that he had received
he broke down in tears and refused to wear it. His
mother forced it onto him and she clearly did not
understand the fierceness of the rivalry between the
two teams. So the young boy worked up enough courage
to go down to the skating rink in his Maple Leaf’s
jersey and faced all of his friends. He didn’t get
any playing time and felt as though he was being treated
unfairly, in a moment of sudden fury he slammed his
stick against the ice with all his might and it broke.
He was than kicked off the ice and went to God to
ask for his forgiveness.
